It's finally here! I know you've been waiting for it.
Sorry I took a year to write it, but at the time Crow Magic released I didn't realize a series would be born. And then an eagle visited me....

She brushed the gray tips and white strands of hair that gave him
such untamed nobility. With a finger, she traced his face from his temple to
his jaw, across his lips, then scraping her nails along the fine hair under his
chin. A man of his enormous size would be capable of great strength, and a gal
could easily lose herself in his arms for more than one night. His gaze
intensified under her scrutiny.
“What do you see when you look at me?” he asked and lowered his
eyes. Sinfully long lashes brushed his cheeks.
She considered him to be the most gorgeous man alive. His eyes
mesmerized her. Some would consider the unusual color to be eerie, but she saw
a whirlwind of emotions, from pain to hope, drawing her into his soul. Did his
unusual appearance cause issues and uncertainty in his life? Despite his
intimidating frame, he exhibited control and gentle qualities in the tender way
he’d held her when they danced and the way he’d admitted his soft spot for animals.

“So what’s the plan?”
“What do you mean?”
“The plan, you know, how are you going to steal the
painting?” He spoke more calmly than he felt.
“I hardly think you need to know about that.”
“John mentioned involving me. Let me help.” He
needed her to let him help her. He couldn’t stand by and let her face the
threat of prison, bodily harm, or death all alone. Somewhere between her locked
front door and the Rembrandt, Eve had become his to protect, and he wouldn’t
let her down.
She pushed back from the bar, hands on her hips.
“John was out of his mind to suggest such a thing, and you have no business
being anywhere near this situation.”
God, she could be stubborn. “Then why did you tell
me about it?”
She goggled at him for a moment, then ignored his
question. “John and I can handle it. We have to get access to a museum
fundraiser where the painting is going to be displayed and take it from there.
It’s simple really. You’re not needed.”
Hudson saw his window and he went for it. “A
fundraiser? Not for the Santa Barbara Art Museum?”
She was slow to respond. “Yes, actually.”
His chest surged with relief that he could offer her
something that might help her stay out of harm’s way. “I donated a print to
their charity auction. It’s a joint fundraiser for the museum and for art
education scholarships for low income high schoolers.”
“Of course it is,” she grumbled.
“Which means I have an invitation,” he said. “Want
to be my plus one?”
She bit her lip and crossed her arms. She wouldn’t
be able to turn down his perfect way in, and he’d be at her side, keeping the
wolves at bay.
“It’s dangerous, you’d get us all caught.”
He smiled. He knew rationalizations when he heard
them. She was going to cave any minute.
“You need my help,” he said, moving closer. “I don’t
like the thought of you out there up to no good on your own.” They were so
close they were practically breathing the same air.
“I won’t be alone,” she said halfheartedly. “I’ll
have John.”
He wasn’t above playing dirty. He slid a hand around
the back of her neck, stroking the soft hair that covered it like a waterfall.
It took physical effort to keep from shuddering at the intense pleasure the
sensation brought him. “I really don’t like the thought of you out with John at
some swanky party. You’ll probably be dressed to the nines. High heels and
everything,” he murmured.
“Jealous?” she breathed.
“Very.”
And he kissed her.

Slipping his fingers into her hair, he lowered his head. Instinct kicked in and her arms went around his waist. His sinewy muscles flexed under the silken shirt while his breath fluttered over her mouth. He traced the line of her chin with his lips, burying his face in her hair. He tasted her neck and she yielded to him. Heat traveled through her to settle between her thighs.
“Your skin is the blush of the palest flower.” He inhaled. “Hmm…I smell honeysuckle. You have the most beautiful hair I’ve ever seen. It is so vibrant with fierce, turbulent colors. Inside you is an inferno of sexuality yearning to be released. My angel, come with me into the darkness so I may help you find light.”

With a deep sigh, Steph continued to gaze at the site, wondering where she fit into the street party of existence. Not a single malicious bone in her body, yet a monster lurked inside, crying to be set free. And, despite the desire to have a special someone to share a lifetime of love and happiness, meaningless one-night stands never filled the emptiness inside. Lately, living and breathing her job had become her reason for lack of a social life. That, and always being looked at as one of the guys and a hard ass.
Some of the cops‟ wives had made it their mission to fix her up with someone. Despite their efforts to feminize her, she intimidated the men they‟d found for her. Sneak Peek Sunday - Crow Magic

Her pale skin altered his opinion of the color white. He’d always considered the pallid shade boring. Her skin was that of an angel, light as the beach sand, smooth as milk and honey. He recognized the presence of the Water Spirit and noticed a calming of her aura. Her invitation to sit with her on the beach delighted him. He’d smelled magic in the blood he drew on her wrist. Her lovely eyes focused his attention on the eagerness of her soul yearning to be set free, stirring a longing obscured under personal responsibilities. His crow begged to claim her. Could it be possible she possessed a spirit animal akin to his own?
Because of her keen response to the bird, he predicted her reaction to the man would be more fervent. His cock grew hard, his palms itched to touch the milky skin and he hungered to taste her.
“You have been a mouse too long.” He whispered to the wind, “It is time to let the fiery angel fly. Trust me. Believe in me. I will show you how to soar.”

“I think so.” She
considered his offer. “What do I do?”

In the moonlight, an
endearing, innocent blush spread across her face. Amazing how a woman who lived

Crow Shifter = YUMMY
Shape shifting has become a common theme in today’s popular
fiction. According to Wikipedia, shape shifting
occurs when a being (usually human) either (1) has the ability to change its
shape into that of another person, creature, or other entity or (2) finds its
shape involuntarily changed by someone else.

In contemporary romance, shifters are sexy as hell.

I love reading
stories with shifters and never thought I could write one until I watched some
crows in my yard. As a child, my
grandmother told me to never speak ill of the dead in the presence of a crow
since these are the chosen animals to carry spirits. The crow may be carrying the spirit of the
person you are speaking of.
Watching the
crows I noticed the beauty of the silky black feathers. The vision of said feathers brushing
seductively against pale skin kicked my imagination into overdrive and created a Native American shaman who could shift into crow.
My muse
has wings and was delighted when my mind wandered in the direction of Native
American Crow legends. Deep in research, I found the picture shown above and a story for
1 Night Stand unfolded. |
