SciFi Sunday - Galactic Gladiators

Fighting for love, honor, and freedom on the galaxy's lawless outer rim...

I grew up reading sci-fi and stealing my mom's Harlequin romances. I saw the first Star Wars movie 7 times in the summer it came out and fantasized about Luke and Hans Solo (who didn't). I watched Battlestar Galactica every week. I still love a good galactic adventure with romance...or romance with a good galactic adventure.
Author, Anna Hacket seems to have found a way into the stars and found new worlds with lots of adventure and romance. One certainly can fall fast for her hunky heroes! Her Gladiator series is a great read to curl up with.
Here's a little Q&A I stole from Amazon...
Q & A with the Author
Q - How would you describe the Galactic Gladiators series?
A - Gladiators in space! The desert planet of Carthago is home to the Kor Magna Arena: it's a mix of low and high tech. Think the Colosseum of Ancient Rome with a touch of professional sports and a side of Las Vegas glitz and temptation. You'll see a lot of action-packed romance as women abducted from Earth clash with tough, gritty gladiators fighting for love, honor, and freedom.
Q - Why did you want to write the series?
A - It's no secret that I love action, adventure and romance. And I love science fiction romance and all the endless possibilities. Raiden, the gladiator hero of Gladiator, stormed into my head and wanted his story told. I saw this big, tough man covered in tattoos facing off with an equally tough female space marine from Earth. That's where it all began, and since then the planet of Carthago, the intrigues of the Kor Magna Arena, and an amazing band of gladiators came to life.
Q - What order should I read the books in?
A - All the Galactic Gladiator books will be stand-alone romances centered on the Kor Magna Arena, rescuing abducted humans, and making a life far from home. Here's the order I suggest:
- Gladiator
- Warrior
- Hero
- Protector
- Champion
- Barbarian
- Beast
- Rogue
- Guardian
- Cyborg
- Imperator
- Hunter
Join gladiator Raiden Tiago and the toughest gladiators of the House of Galen as they fight to protect the fierce women they love on the blood-soaked sands of the Kor Magna Arena.

A Tasty Treat #Sci-FiRom Excerpt from Just Desserts by Gail Koger

Action, adventure, romance, sci-fi/paranormal and lot’s of steamy lovin’.
Throw in some humor and you’ve got yourself a great read.
Welcome to Gail Koger’s Coletti Warlord series.  Nothing is hotter than a Coletti Warlord. He’s an alpha male who considers conquering the universe is a piece of cake. He is a master of psychic seduction but finds his match in a spitfire heroine. Gail has a new release that needs to be added to your summer reading!

Messing with a pregnant, hormonal woman is never a good idea.

 BLURB:

Kaylee knew being a Coletti Warlord's mate wasn't going to be easy. Not only was Talree downright scary, he had a bossy streak a mile long and collected enemies like most men collected lovers. But while Kaylee's life might not be perfect, Talree truly loved her.

Flash forward nine months to a very pregnant, insanely hormonal and cranky as hell Kaylee. If the pregnancy wasn't enough to drive her crazy, Talree's enemies are tap dancing on her last nerve. The Shani Queen Mother, a psychotic alien with a bone to grind against Talree, decided she wanted the planet Tartum - a barren piece of crap loaded with Ditrum crystals, and part of the Coletti Empire. Her master plan? Kidnap Kaylee and hold her for ransom. If the Overlord refused to give the Queen Mother Tartum, she would feed Kaylee and her son to the Tai-Kok.

She thinks Kaylee will beg for mercy. Boy, is the alien bitch in for a surprise. She's about to meet a woman suffering from hormone overload and a serious lack of chocolate. The only one begging for mercy will be the Queen Mother.

Excerpt:
I took a deep breath and gave him my spiel. “Why pick me? There have to be hundreds of females on your worlds pleading for the chance to be your mate.”

Something carnal flared to life in his amber gaze. “I desire only you.”

Well, shit. “Here’s the thing. I don’t desire you. I know it’s a big disappointment, but you’ll get over it.” I jumped as invisible psychic fangs nipped my throat. “Don’t touch me.”

“I will touch you when and where I wish.”

“Like hell.” My body clenched as phantom hands shaped, kneaded, and claimed my breasts with a sensuous urgency.

“Come to me,” Talree commanded in my head.

I took an involuntary step forward as a surge of blistering need hit me. No! This had to be some kind of mental voodoo. There was no way I suddenly craved his touch. Talree had been in my head for weeks, and I had never wanted to lick him all over. Until now. Crap, it had to be the blood exchange he had forced on me when I was tossed into his cell on the Rodan ship. That was when the horrible truth hit me.

If he took me, I would be his forever. “Listen, you’ve made a really big mistake. Being locked up for so long has messed with your head. You’re not my mate.”

Talree’s tone was adamant. “I am your mate.”

“Jeezus. Just because you believe it, doesn’t make it true.” I hissed as mental fingers slid down my stomach and glided between my legs. My pussy clenched as his fingers penetrated me. “Stop it! We’re not even the same species. Our parts won’t fit.”

“They will fit.” He moved toward me, a predator stalking his prey. “Take off your clothes.”

This guy had a one-track mind. “No.”

An implacable resolve filled Talree’s eyes. “You accepted my claim. Does your word mean nothing?”

He had a point but… “I would have said just about anything to keep you from eating me.”

“I will bind you to me.”

“You can try, fang boy.” Those damned ghostly fingers moved deeper inside me, inflaming every nerve ending until my body shook with raw want and all logic fled.

A hot tongue licked my clit. I clenched my fists as lightning arced through me. Another lick, and my knees buckled. Helpless with desire, I hit the floor and rode out a crest of ecstasy so intense, I thought I would die. “God. I’m totally screwed.”

“You will be.” Talree tilted my head up, and his lips covered mine with a passionate desperation. Whoa! Who knew kissing was universal?

Talree’s tongue invaded, tasted, possessed. He began thrusting into my mouth, the rhythm matching the movement deep inside me. I was dimly aware of him unbuttoning my shirt. A part of me was screaming in protest. Another part of me welcomed his invasion, embraced it.

Another Sweet Teaser from Elysium

As promised... here's your second teaser....

Will April ever be ready to love another man?

 Blurb:
Two years have passed since April Patterson’s husband was shot and killed in the line of duty, and she’s trapped in a haze of grief and uncertainty. Having grown frustrated by all other efforts to engage her in activities where she could meet new people, her cousin pays for a date via 1Night Stand. Not thrilled with the idea, April nevertheless contacts Madame Eve and requests the impossible: a date with her deceased husband.

Brilliant software engineer Drew Monroe created his company, Elysium, to help give closure to those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, through the use of virtual reality. Though passionate about his work, being constantly surrounded by heartache and death has taken a toll on his mental health. When he accepts the case of a young widow referred to him by Madame Eve, her tragic tale depresses him further, but he commits himself to programming April the romantic date she desires.

April arrives at Elysium and prepares to enter Drew’s virtual realm. Will she find the solace she seeks within? Or will she discover she doesn’t need a fantasy world to discover happiness again?

Excerpt:
I came over to her in an effort to console her, and I doubted I’d even succeeded at that. In trying to offer her comfort, I’d contorted myself into an awkward position, trapping us between her chair and mine. The helmet she flung at me balanced on one leg, and my opposite elbow stuck out at an unnatural angle as I struggled to hold her in some sort of odd embrace. Terrific.
Her tears pooled on my upper arm, soaking through the shirt. “I’m sorry,” she kept repeating, her voice strained and muffled. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry….”

“No, I’m sorry.” My throat constricted, and for a second I thought I’d start crying with her. I grieved for a man I never met, and twinges of guilt tugged at my conscience as I thought about all the times I’d envied him. Coupled with the blatant shortcomings in operating Elysium’s software, I was not feeling very good about myself. “I’m sorry I let you down.” One arm tightened around her and shame pushed the next selfish words out. “I wanted to give you something no one else could. I wanted to let you be happy again.”

Little by little, April calmed down. She stopped shaking and her breathing slowed. Lifting her head, she stared at me with red-rimmed eyes. Something shifted within their gray depths, and she moved as if to stand. I expected her to disentangle herself from me and gather her belongings, but she leaned against the edge of the chair, wedging one knee between my thigh and the armrest. Before I could react, her hands were in my hair, her tongue was in my mouth, and she kissed me with a blazing intensity as if it was the last thing she’d ever do.

What?

Kiss her back, you idiot.

Without breaking contact, I tilted backward in the chair and set the virtual headset on the floor behind me. When I had both hands free, I grasped her waist and pulled her closer. Her lips were soft and inviting, and the taste of her tongue as she swirled it around mine hypnotized me. Could this really be happening?

I skimmed both palms over her sides and back. Her body was warm through her thin T-shirt, and I yearned to discover what her skin felt like beneath her clothing. Afraid to push too far too fast in case I broke whatever spell we were under, I settled for weaving my fingers through her long, smooth locks.

Any intentions I had of keeping our exploration innocent flew out the window when she climbed farther onto the chair. Straddling me, she gave my lower lip a sharp nibble, and I tried not to groan in response. Wrapping my arms around her, I lost myself to the fervor of our kiss. She had to have felt the expanding erection stirring beneath her.

She pulled away from me, her face flushed scarlet. “Oh my God,” she mumbled, clasping her hands over her mouth. “What is wrong with me?”

Excerpt:
We sat in silence. It was the first time a client had asked me so many personal questions. On one hand, I worried about coming across as unprofessional, but on the other, it felt good to verbalize those thoughts for a change. Putting that aside, April hadn’t come to play psychiatrist with me. I had a job to do.

“Anything else before we get started?” I pushed off the edge of the desk and straightened.

She didn’t get up. “Do you ever go into your own virtual realities?”

“Actually, I don’t.” I ran a finger along the top of one of the screens. “First of all, it needs to be monitored from the outside. I can’t do both at the same time.”

“Got it.” She nodded. “What else?”

A clammy feeling crawled over me. “Nothing.”

“You said ‘first of all.’ That means there must be a second.”

She’d paid attention, I’d give her that. I tried to backtrack. “Forget it.”

Sliding her arm off the chair, she leaned forward, ginger hair spilling over her shoulders. “I want to know what I’m getting into. Tell me.” Face upturned, she stared at me and I struggled to breathe in a normal rhythm. “Please?”

Don’t say it, don’t admit to it, she doesn’t need to know…. Talking to her eased a little of the tension that had been twisting tighter and tighter over time. I ignored the voices telling me not to make a confession, but the words spilled out faster than I’d intended.

“With all the misery and heartache I see in the world, the temptation exists to disappear into a painless fantasy.” The chill spreading through me intensified. “I’m afraid I’d lose myself and never want to come out.”

April blinked her long lashes and straightened in the chair. “That’s one of the reasons I’m anxious about going in there.”
