A Moment of Calm - Porch Pets

In these stressful times, it's important to take pause.
Welcome to my porch.
Have a seat.
Take a deep breath and relax.

It has been said, "A picture worth a thousand words" but sometimes words aren't needed.

Memorial Day 2020 - Heartbreak or Love?

I know many people are planting gardens or enjoying small gatherings, but there really isn't anything romantic about this holiday. It's more about heartbreak...or maybe not.

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who served this country and died while serving. My family is lucky in the fact that since the Revolutionary War, my ancestors came back from every war they fought in. (Otherwise, I wouldn't be here. Right?)

However, there have been some great uncles and friends of the family who didn't come back from war. Men and women who were loved by others and then gone in an instant.

It's important to teach the younger generations about the price of war.
The heartbreak and the love.
State and Local Communities have war memorials,
check with your Chamber of Commerce to find out what is closest to you.

Whenever, my family travels to Washington DC,
we make a point of showing respect and visiting the war memorials.

I would like to take a pause and say a prayer of thanks to all who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

I know 2020 is probably going to go down as one of the worst years ever... but at least we have it.
They don't.

Think of the kind of love one would have to sacrifice his/her life for the ideals of our country.
It's love, people...true patriotism is based on LOVE.

Romance in the Air - Breakfast with the Turkeys

Hubby and I enjoyed breakfast on the deck this morning. He was in Seattle and I was home in Michigan. Thank God for video chats! While we enjoyed our romantic moments, Tom and Penny joined us.

The young, dashing tom turkey and his lovely hen meandered out of the woods to find goodies left for them at the feeding stations. A larger flock hangs out a few housed down the street but we are happy with our small family.

Tom knows he's a handsome devil.

Tom is one of three bachelor birds we've watched grow and mature over the years. He's young and this is probably his first family.

Perfect Penny

Penny visits the feeders several times a day; often is on her way in as I step away from filling the stations. She has a sister, Henny, who is part of the family but is rather camera shy and a bit skittish.

Watching drama of nature unfolding can be relaxing and sometimes better than TV. When he's home, hubby & I use the peace of the morning to sit on the deck. It's romantic and recharging as we share gentle touches and conversation.

Take a morning to sip a cup of coffee or tea, with your honey or alone, on a porch, deck or patio. Reconnect with yourself, your honey and nature. It's good for the heart and soul.

Six Sentence Sunday - Crow Magic

Smooth tanned skin rippled as his rigid muscles flexed. His eyes radiated intensity, gold flecks mingling in the black irises. Raven hair hung over his broad shoulders as he moved. He gazed at her with desire until the reality of her situation sank in. She’d just experienced the appetizer and the time had come for the main course. Bring it on!

When Life Gives You Lemons, Put Them in Wine

In some cultures, the lemon is sometimes considered the symbol of friendship and love, purity and longevity.

My mom was fond of pairing wine with dinner and I find myself doing the same. When you are having a romantic moment with food and your honey, it's nice to have a wine that compliments the mood.

I found a nice white wine to pair with fish.
Prophecy Wines supplies a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand's Marlborough region.
(I know... it's not a local wine, but sometimes I have to brag about finding a good pairing.)

I selected a 2016 vintage of the High Priestess.
Flavors of grapefruit, lychee and Meyer lemon offer crisp, citrus flavor that is compliment with aromas of fresh cut grass and cool sea air. Serve this chilled wine with baked lemon pepper whitefish to create a perfect match.

Yeah... I know... there isn't much wine in the bottle featured.
What can I say? It was very good!

Want more lemon?
Add a thin slice of lemon to your glass of wine.

Cheers!
