Author Talk With KT Egan

Personal writing has become quiet popular over the last year. More people are picking up reading as a hobby and fans are reaching out to their favorite authors. YA Romance Author KT Egan stopped by today to chat with us about being a writer.

I’ve taught several writing classes over the years and the most common question is regarding how an author begins and evolves. Tell us about your career in a nutshell.

KT: I’ve been writing since I was five years old. My parents were both avid readers and they had always been super supportive of me following my dreams. I have one book published and one that will be published next May.

I’m normally a smut miser but do enjoy any good romance. All You Hold On To is one of my favorites. I look forward to your next book. Tell us about what you write.

KT: I write contemporary romance, mainly for YA and NA audiences. I don’t think I could ever write historical fiction – I studied history and literature in parallel in college and I loved it but I don’t have the passion for historical fiction the way I do for other things.

Do you have a special place you like to write or any quirks when it comes to writing?

KT: Not really…I’m more of a ‘need to write while I’m inspired’ type of writer. I can write anywhere as long as I have some background noise.

I always have to have my tunes playing when I write. I find a lot of fans enjoy authors plays lists. Do you ever get to meet your readers?

KT: I haven’t had the chance due to the pandemic…but I’m really excited to be able to get the chance in the future.

I’m sure that will happen. I look forward to catching up with you at writers/readers conv. It’s great fun chatting with readers in person. I’m sure you catch up with everyone via the net tho. What is a question most people ask you?

KT: Where did I get the inspiration for the plot of the series.

We’ll save that answer for the interview in May. *wink, wink* What is the strangest thing you’ve Goggled while working on a story?

KT: I once Googled about eight different can designs for Folger’s coffee cans – it was a very miniscule detail to the story I was working on but something I was determined to get right.

They say (I’m not sure who THEY are) that good writers are good readers. What is on your TBR pile right now?

KT: A ton of ARCs from some really awesome authors, and Tinder Fella by Jennifer L. Schiff

Are you a daydreamer?

KT: I think that, to be a good author, you need to be a daydreamer. You need to find yourself getting lost in your head, at least every once in a while. And for me, that does seem to happen a lot – maybe a little bit more than I would wish for.

So true. Now to get a little silly…If we were to take a sneak peak in your purse, what would we find?

KT: Some dairy digestive pills, a ton of handsanitizer, and at least three tubes of lipstick.

FUN STUFF:

EBooks or Print? EBooks

Wine or beer? Neither – I’m not much of a drinker

Coffee or tea? Tea

Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla

What is your biggest “girlish” vice? (Nails, shopping, chick flicks?) I need to have my nails done constantly.

Romantic dinner at home or dinner out? Dinner out

What is your favorite flavor or ice cream? Strawberry or vanilla

Thanks for joining us today, KT!

Author KT Egan Talks About Romance

February is the month of Love and Romance.

A perfect time to pick the brain of a Romance Author

KT Egan writes mainly sweet romances with some suggestive moments and is the author of the Anderson Creek Series. She took time from her busy schedule to stop by and share her thoughts on Romance.

Thanks for stopping by today, KT. I love your book, All You Hold On To. How would you describe your Romance Writing Style in 5 words?

KT: Sweet, with cozy happy endings.

I love sweet with cozy, happy endings. *wink, wink* What food or drink would you consider sexy or romantic?

KT: For me, the sexiest food out there is shrimp (mainly ‘cause I’m slightly allergic so it’s a forbidden treat)

Definitely agreeing with shrimp being sexy, especially when your honey feed it to you. *sigh* I’d probably end up wearing it tho. LOL We know romance isn’t perfect. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while on a date?

KT: My now partner and I met in college. We’d been friends for a while before we started dating – but like, the kind of friends who would just hang out on campus mainly. So on our first date, we were getting in his car, and out of nowhere (and without really thinking about it) I go “Please don’t be a serial killer…and like…kill me.” It’s been over two years and he still doesn’t let me live it down.

Too funny! So….What’s the kinkiest, sexiest thing you’ve ever done?

KT: Uhhhh…I’m not really sure that I’ve done anything that could even be considered close to kinky.

Ok, I’ll give that one to you. We’ll talk more later. Back to Romance…if you could spend a romantic weekend anywhere in the world, where would you go?

KT: I would go to Aspen and spend a weekend in a little ski shack curled up in front of the fire with my partner, some really decadent food, and no internet access.

Ooooo… sounds wonderful. But how about some tunes. What are your favorite songs for love and romance?

KT: Oh there’s too many to count! Right now my favorite love ballad is Ever Long by the Foo Fighters and my all time favorite romance song is When You Say I Do by Jamestown Story featuring Michelle Rene.

Oh, yeah…now we’re talking. Let’s cover fragrance now. What are your favorite scents for love and romance?

KT: Roses, vanilla, definitely the scent of a fireplace.

That certainly sounds like romance. What bit of romantic advice would you give your readers?

KT: Follow your gut – even if it leads you to make mistakes along the way. Don’t overthink it when it comes to love.

FUN STUFF:

Dine in or dine out? Dine out

Flowers or candy? Flowers

Roses or name another flower? White roses

Diamonds or name another gem? Opals

Ice cream or frozen yogurt? Ice cream

Pillow talk… flirty or dirty? Both!

Perfume or jewelry? Jewelry

Tall or dark or handsome? Or all three? Dark and handsome – height is overrated sometimes.

Fireside Interview With K. T. Egan

Let's start the New Year with a New Author and a New Book!
Join us at the bonfire!

It's a lazy afternoon and a the backyard bonfire is blazing. Hot dogs and fixings for smores are ready to go. New Adult Romance author, KT Egan stopped by for a cup of tea and a fireside chat about her new book, All You Hold On To, the first book in the Anderson Creek series.

I know you have penned several short stories and poems but I'm so excited for your new book, KT! I understand this is your first published book and the beginning of a four book series. That's awesome! All You Hold On To is a beautifully written book with a sweet romance, second chance love and great characters who will pull at your heartstrings.  Where did you get the idea for this story?

KT: I was sitting in the writing center of my alma matter, trying to make sense of a project I’d started over the summer when it dawned on me that there are so many questions left unanswered at the end of a relationship. And one of the biggest ones, to me anyway, was what would you do if the person you broke up with was the only you had? What if that person was your power of attorney – would you change it or would you leave it the same because you knew that person, you trusted that person at one point with your entire life.

How did you come up with the book title?

KT: I was inspired by a song - and then the wording just fell into place.

I'm always inspired by the music I listen to. I get storyline ideas and character names. Speaking of names, how did you create your characters?

KT: I’ve had a lot of eclectic jobs in my life, and I’ve worked with a lot of zany people, and more often than not I find myself drawing character name inspiration from the people who tend to come in and out of my life on a day-to-day basis.

Here's a smore for you.
Instead of using a Hersey bar, I used a Reese peanut butter cup.

So yummy! While we're nibbling on sweet treats, tell me, how naughty do you get with your writing?

KT: I mainly write more sweet, lighter romance with just a touch of suggestion. However, it’s mainly very PG.

Where there scenes you found difficult to write?

KT: I have a really hard time with the scenes right in the middle, surrounding the climax of the story.

That, I can relate to. The story in my head moves much faster than my fingers can type and then I'll sit back and think, "Is that what I want to tell? Is that how I want to tell it?" Tell me something trivial about you when you're writing.

KT: I once Googled about eight different can designs for Folger’s coffee cans – it was a very miniscule detail to the story I was working on but something I was determined to get right. I always have to have noise around me – I know a lot of authors can’t write with external distractions but I need them to be able to focus. It can be anything from TV to the radio, as long as it makes noise.

I'm right there with ya, sista! I always have music on when I write. We'll our time is coming to an end. There are hot dogs to be roasted and mugs to be refilled with tea. What would you like to share with our readers?

KT: Don’t count yourself down and out, no matter how hard things can seem sometimes. For me, the best inspiration has always come from those moments where I felt that I was at my lowest.

Fun stuff:

Favorite drink: Lime seltzer

Favorite candy: Reese’s cups

Favorite food: Tacos of all kinds

Favorite article of clothing or jewelry: I love jeans

Favorite place to read: The couch, with a cup of tea and a cozy blanket.

Place you want to visit some day: Barcelona, Spain

Special Thanks to author, KT Egan.
